Since late in 2009, Emcee/Producer tandem Statik Selektah ( @@StatikSelekt) and Termanology ( @TermanologyST) have been hard at work on their landmark collaborative album 1982.  Now New York transplants, Statik and Termonology are Massachusetts natives and have worked together frequently throughout the last five years—yet 1982 marks their first full-length project together.

Termanology began making a name for himself with several highly acclaimed 12″ singles. At the onset of 2006, Term’s big break came when DJ Premier blessed him with one of his signature, scratch-laden beats. “Watch How It Go Down” instantly became an underground classic and with it Termanology thrusted himself onto Hip-Hop’s international radar. The conscious hood anthem garnered the earnest MC tons of praise, landing him in The Source’s “Unsigned Hype” and XXL’s “Show and Prove” columns. On September 30, 2008, he released his debut album, Politics As Usual, to critical acclaim. Politics As Usual featured production and appearances from Hip-hop heavyweights such as Bun B, Prodigy, Freeway, Sheek Louch, The Alchemist, Pete Rock, Buckwild, Easy Mo Bee & Large Professor.

Establishing his own spot amongst the ranks of East Coast hip-hop’s seminal figures, DJ/producer Statik Selektah utilized his turntabling skills and ingenuity in PR and promotions to break some of the region’s most promising artists, bearing his own influence on the national mixtape circuit. As a producer he has worked with Talib Kweli, Bun B, Styles P, Consequence, Freeway, M.O.P. and Jadakiss (among many others); and most importantly, the DJ became a major-player on the mixtape circuit as his releases with Nas, Q-Tip, John Legend, and Saigon received major accolades and write-up’s. Statik dropped his first LP, Spell My Name Right in 2007, Stick 2 the Script in 2008 and his third full-length solo-project, 100 Proof: The Hangover in 2010.

Statik has revealed that 1982 will be released on October 26, 2010 through Showoff Records, in conjunction with Term’s ST. Records and famed Boston underground Hip Hop imprint—Brick. The 1^st leak from the album is the grimey headnodder “Goin Back.” The record has been getting rave reviews on the net, radio & streets alike and features legendary West Coast act Xzibit (MTV’s Pimp My Ride) & “The Hustler” Cassidy. A video is in the works for “Goin Back” with director John Colombo, who recently shot visuals the for official single off the 1982 album – “You Should Go Home,” which features “Mr. 5 Mics” Bun B & Maybach Music crooner Masspike Miles. The video for “You Should Go Home” is out now and the single is available on Itunes & All digital stores.

With the release date for the project now on the horizon, Termanology laments on the project named after his and Statik’s mutual year of birth – “I’m excited, the album is finally here and hip-hop is in desperate need of an album like this right now.” Other album highlights include Term spazzing out on the 100 bar intro “The World Renown” and linking up with legendary MC’s Inspectah Deck, Styles P & M.O.P.

As an added bonus, Statik Selektah has also revealed that the duo will release a free Bonus EP of exclusive material to those who provide proof of purchase of the album.

Lupe’s former Producer/Friend took to Twitter to express his disappointment in Lupe’s music and career moves. Apparently Prolyfic was there in the beginning of Lupe’s career and saw it all as it unfolded. He offered his full opinion on why his #LASERS album isn’t being released and stands up for the fans of Lupe saying that if he does more they wouldn’t have to petition.

I’m sure some of the die hard Lupe fans might be upset by this but I’m sure Prolyfic has some valid points in this. I remember even feeling some type of way myself after Lupe reneged on that “Friend of the People” mixtape. Then he basically told the fans to get over it. Que Records Inks North American Distribution Deal with EMI Label Services

New York, NY—June 1st, 2010, New York City:  Que Records has entered into an exclusive distribution deal with EMI Label Services that is designed to maximize the exposure and sales for artists under the Que Records umbrella. The group has garnered 15 multi-platinum, platinum and gold certifications from the RIAA; headlined Lollapalooza, Woodstock and the group’s own Smokin’ Grooves tour, appeared on “Saturday Night Live,” made the late-night talk show circuit—all the while breaking down the musical and cultural barriers between hip-hop, alternative, metal, rock, reggae, ska and Latin music. In 2008, DJ Muggs, along with Cypress Hill received a VH1 Hip Hop Honors, to celebrate the vision and innovation that the group continues to bring to Hip Hop, strengthening its force around the world.

Yet, that only touches on what Muggs has done as a member of Cypress Hill, as his highly-influential solo-projects (Soul Assassin Series, Grandmaster’s with Wu-Tang Clan’s GZA) and not to mention producing hits for House of Pain “Jump Around” and Ice Cube “Check Yo Self” among many others. Ill Bill was obviously honored to be working with Muggs, as he affirms “I’ve always been a huge Muggs fan and his Vs. series is one of the last places to hear the vibe that made albums by Cypress Hill & Gang Starr so dope. Not too many producers can craft an entire album on their own, let alone an album that’s a classic. Muggs has done it many times over the past 20 years. It’s an honor to be part of that legacy.”

For the vast majority of his career, whether solo or in a group capacity, Muggs has established a precedent for working hand in hand with artists and creating cohesive bodies of work, rather then spreading around beats from project to project and that rings true once again on Kill Devil Hills “I prefer getting in the lab and actually creating projects with people instead of just sending out beat CDs. I’m a producer in the fullest extent, where I like to not only produce an album; but craft an album. Being able to start a record from the beginning and following through with it, making sure that all the songs compliment each other. I’ve always come from making albums and producing my records—I’m still into that” relays DJ Muggs.

Ill Bill was a founding member of Non Phixion who released their seminal debut, The Future Is Now, in 2002 and has also released two influential solo LP’s. Bill has also released an LP as a member of the bi-coastal conglomerate La Coka Nostra (which also includes Everlast, Danny Boy and DJ Lethal of House Of Pain and newcomer Slaine). Ill Bill’s The Hour Of Reprisal (2008) showed flashes of what the future would hold, as Bill & Muggs collaborated on two tracks (“This Is Who I Am” & “Only Time Will Tell”) for Bill’s most recent solo-LP.

Kill Devil Hills is entirely produced by DJ Muggs and features appearances by B-Real, Raekwon, Sean Price, Everlast, Slaine, Chace Infinite, O.C. Q-Unique, Vinnie Paz and others, but by going where instinct took them, Ill Bill & DJ Mugg’s collaborative union manifested into a sonically cohesive album; seemingly very organically as Ill Bill asserts “”Production & conceptually, this record plays out like a movie. All the songs connect. It moves like a concept record the way the beats blend with the words even though we didn’t plan it like that. It’s basically it’s own sound, the Muggs vs. Bill sound” and Muggs adds “the chemistry between us was very natural. Any decisions we had to make, it was easy, like we’d worked together for years. When we sat back & heard the final product, man, we were both blown away.”

After over a year of trying to work with Mighty Mi to take T.H.E. High Exhaulted off of I tunes and getting no where, Copywrite ( @COPYWRITE @copywriteworld ) has finally erupted. Copywrite had approached Milo over a year ago about wanting to re-release his debut album since there was never a formal contract between the two he felt there would be no issue. Milo however felt differently and would not give Copywrite permission to include a couple of the tracks that Milo had done production for on the re-release.

Copywrite accepted that but insisted that T.H.E High Exhaulted be taken down off of I Tunes and anywhere else Milo might have it for sale. A year later Milo still has not done this. “Poorly Promote This” was born out of Copywrite’s frustration with how Milo and Eon handled the promotion of his first record and the recent chatter that has been heard about him re-releasing his classic debut.
