Some of these rappers have been pulling a Chinese Democracy, but it would be great if their mysterious projects actually see the light of day. In no particular order, this is the stuff I’m looking forward to hearing this year.
01) Dr. Dre - Detox
We’ve been hearing about this one for over a decade. I think Dre is playing it smart by not flooding the streets with his material. Because of all the setbacks and leaks, it’s always something truly special to hear something in it’s completion from the good doctor.
02) Jay Electronica – TBA
Will this guy ever release an album? I sure hope Jay gets this guy to get a full body of work together for a proper release. Even his mixtapes are just random songs thrown together that were recorded at different times.
03) J. Cole – Cole World
Been a fan of this guy since the Warm Up and it’s a good feeling to know that he’s signed and to Jay-Z of all people. I always thought he had a lot of potential from the stuff I heard on his early mixtapes, but “Who Dat” is on that next ish.
