WHO:
Coming shortly after Hip-Hop’s 39th birthday, this month’s Uniquity channels the grimy, show and prove attitude of the Sedgwick Avenue apartment building battles and rooftop cyphers with an opening commencement by New Orleans Battle Zone freestyler/lyricist New Era and special guest sets by L’Daialogue Dicaprio (L.A./Memphis), Whygee (Denver), Raleigh/Durham natives/State of The Art touring artists (Kaj Kadence, Wreck-n-Crew, Young Free, Sarah Kaboom, Chris Millz).
Raleigh/Durham storyteller Lazurus, NOLA Hip-Hop duo Rose Gold Rebels (Tunes & Prophet) and seasoned rap vet/featured artist Jimi Clever will join band Fo On the Flo for energetic performances that will keep you moving and chanting their call and responses. In addition, the boom bap laden, authentic Hip-Hop turntablism of DJ Bazooka Joe (best known for his work as DJ to legendary Hip-Hop duo, Black Sheep) will be displayed on the 1s & 2s through the night.
WHAT: Uniquity (yoo-nik-wi-tee) – A monthly event hosted by emcee Slangston Hughes featuring the best and brightest in Hip-Hop, Spoken Word and R&B performers, accompanied by New Orleans’ own live jazz band, Fo On The Flo. Uniquity is sponsored in part by Humidity Skate Shop, Visual Crack music blog and Bissap Breeze.
